Below is an interview with James Black, who was one of the producers for Coconut Girl. I arranged the interview to ask him a few questions about the project, and the 'scandal' that might have surrounded it. For what he said, I think I've got it pretty correct on the new Coconut Girl page (which has yet to be uploaded with v2.0).

There has been some scandal surrounding the Coconut Girl project, and it is quite difficult to find reliable facts as to what happened. Would you be able to explain the publicity scandal that surrounded the Coconut Girl project?
JB: Well i would not say Scandal, i would say it was quick publicity and quick Marketing as Coconut Girl was Different at the time, they had to think of something that will generate quick interest and publicity.
Did you create, produce and discover Coconut Girl?
JB: I had the idea of Coconut Girl from the first time we bumped into each other in the evening on Helsinki Streets in Finland,I Discovered her and ask if she sings and she Replied yes, i could not believe she was Finnish and how Dark and beautiful she is,,i thought she looked so Hawaiian thats when i wondered by then I was Working alongside Miika Hiilos and Henkka Niemisto and came with the idea to them and from there we all created songs for her for the album,
Which songs by Coconut Girl did you write/produce?
JB: I wrote FANTASY Co produced with Miika Hiilos, And HONOLULU,POP TROPICANA,
Is it true that your name was cut from the album's credits? Why was that?
As Far as i understood,, Because i was living in Finland i felt the respect was not 100% as i was not informed what was really going on behind the scene,,We introduced Coconut to BMG,Finland,And what happen was that they wanted producers with a household name that had good status,(i already had a TOP TEN HIT with my own band), and still it felt it was not enough,BMG got producers called TWIN from SWEDEN to do rest of the Album for Coconut Girl, they flew me to do Vocal Arrangements, Felt it was not necessary,,
Are you friends with any other euro bubblegum dance artists/producers? If so, who?
JB:No but i wish i was,, i had so much gr8 ideas to let out,
i felt i was in the right place but at the wrong time,.
Have you been involved with any other bubblegum dance projects?
JB: Yes Artist called WALDO in 1996, I Noticed you have not added him on yet,,had a hit called Its About Time, Composed and Produced First Album with MixMaster,K, It sold Gold in Finland which Fantastic for a Newcomer,He did 2nd album under Dr Albans Production which sold Platinum, then he went on to Become WALDO'S PEOPLE, .
Do you have any favourite bubblegum dance artists?
JB: HA HA, Good question,I felt at that time and ERA There were loads of gr8 acts out there, AQUA Great Artists, I would say my favorite Artist was ME MY,,,
Were there any plans for a second album release by Coconut Girl? Or further singles?
JB: Well Yes but by the time the first was about to be released i decided to move out of Finland back to the U. K as i really thought it was all becoming a joke for who took The Coconut Girl idea From me.
Has the project officially been abandoned? If so, why?
JB: As far as the news i heard when i was back in the U. K from my sources,they told me because everyone thought Coconut was really from Hawaii, And Because Someone made up a story that she did not see her D. J father from Hawaii for many year , a Finnish magazine decided to raise a fund to fly Coconut to see her Long Lost Father,, but then the truth had to come out that she was really a Finnish girl,,thats as far as i knew,, i was really sad by this as if it was me taking care of her the truth would have been out from the beginning.
Apart from Fantasy, what other music videos were made for Coconut Girl?
As far as i know, NO!!!
