Have you all heard Caramella Girls' new mini album, "Mums Mums", released on the 9th of December? (Available on major streaming platforms + iTunes!). What do you think of the new tracks??
Of course, two of the songs are the previously released "Boop Boy" and Blue Monster cover "Take A Ride", but the other 5 songs are all original tracks, and I'm absolutely THRILLED with them all!
My favourites are "I Won't Let You Go" (awesome production), the cheeky "Tutti Frutti Lover", and "Love Me Baby". I'm hoping one of these will be their next single and they will include a remix or extended version for the fans.
The producers behind this project are now clearly Vasco & Millboy from Caramell, who wrote all of the songs on this mini album (including Take A Ride which was originally written for Blue Monster). I wonder if some of these songs are Caramell leftovers, or if they wrote them all fresh for Caramella Girls. Either way I think they have really cemented Caramella Girls' style, and the vocals are MUCH less high pitched which I think works so much better. It's interesting that they didn't include "Shufflelosophy", "Venezia", "Valentine" and "Samurai" on this album, as those 4 tracks would have bumped it up to 11 tracks, making it a full album. They also wouldn't have been out of place on the album. Perhaps it had something to do with licensing as all 7 of the tracks on "Mums Mums" were written by Vasco & Millboy, while those 4 earlier songs were penned by different artists (just a theory).
I'm absolutely loving the direction Caramella Girls has gone in, as prior to this year while I was a fan (Lollipop and Saw You Standin There were great), I didn't LOVE their over-the-top high pitched vocals... but I think Vasco & Millboy have finally perfected the Caramella Girls style, and they are onto something great. I hope "Mums Mums" does really well and they continue to release great songs. I'm hoping they might release a limited CD run, perhaps a full-length feature album with all their greatest hits... wouldn't that be something?
"Mums Mums" feels like a love letter to fans of bubblegum dance music. On a random note, I'm wondering if Caramella Girls will, in the future, remake another Blue Monster song "Space Girl" which was also written by Vasco & Millboy. It will be interesting to see what they do with to replace the monster vocals in that song, as while the parts sung by Bikki Girl would translatee easy to the girls, there are MUCH more monster vocals in this song than there is in "Motorcycle".
