Yoomiii - Here We Are (2006)
I spontaneously decided to write a review of an album I stumbled across from a random portal on the site. This was the result.
1) Gimme Gimme Gimme (Short version)
A fine start to the album, but it runs a bit long for my liking despite being the short version!
2) A Kiss is All I Miss
I like the song's balance between being upbeat and wistful. The melody is quite similar to K3's 'Sterren' - does anyone know whether that's just a coincidence? (This song came first)
3) For Your Love
This track feels quite generic and has a rather commercial EDM sound I don't care much for. It's a filler track I feel more like I have to sit through than one I actually look forward to hearing.
4) Partygirl
The synths in this one are funky and there are some clever lyrics too.
5) You Are my Sunshine
This song has good vocal harmonies and the chorus has a particularly cool groove to it. I feel the chorus doesn't need to repeated quite so many times though.
6) Schools Out for Summer
Here we come to the highlight of the album for me. The fast pace, bouncy chorus and the perfect voices all contribute to this.
7) Run into the Sun
That said, this one is also awesome, for the same reasons really. The instrumental isn't quite as full as I feel it could be, though, keeping it from sharing the top spot. The last chorus is particularly good - I won't spoil the surprise.
8) Here We Are
I feel like it's weird for the main song of your album, and the song which is supposed to be about who the band are, to be three-quarters of the way through the album. It's a wholesome song about teamwork I guess, but a bit forgettable really.
9) Take Me High
This is a nice europop number, the obligatory slower song of the album. Somewhat forgettable though.
10) Teenage Love
This song is quite relatable because it's unusually honest about its subject matter for a teen pop group. To me this song feels like a Christmas song for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. A memorable number.
11) Saturday Night
This song is quite groovy but it feels distractingly like it's missing a verse. Six o' clock, getting ready, nine o' clock, the party starts... then what?! I'm like the pirate from that one meme going "That's it?". Is this just me? It's a minor gripe really though.
12) When the Rain Begins to Fall
Not a bad song, it does have wholesome lyrics about frienship, but the heavier dance sound doesn't fit the rest of the album in my view so I don't think it's a great choice to finish with.
Overall, this album has some really great songs, but a couple of more forgettable ones too. The tracklisting is also a bit strange - I would swap tracks 2 and 8 and 10 and 12 I think. Nonetheless, I would recommend it. 8/10.
