I first heard of French Affair through her song “my heart goes boom” in 2000 on a trip to Mexico. I was surprised to see the video in the top 5 of a really popular Mexican music channel that is equivalent to MTV. When I got back to the United States I looked for the album but like always, had to order it online because It was not sold in any of the nearby music stores.
1. My heart goes boom- her first big hit that put her on the map, it’s a really cool song, more Euro-Dance but still very brilliant. The beat was perfect and the French lyrics added that push. Definitely one of my favorites.
2. I want your love- really good track, has a really different beat, very good arrangements, more sensual and sexy, the moaning and grunt's were different but not at all bad.
3. Desire- definitely the theme of the album, very seductive and sexual, it’s the type of the song that you know what she is talking about but she does it in a very indirect way. Her voice sounds really good, definitely very different than what’s out there.
4. Poison- this song has a very addictive beat, it sucked me in the first time I heard it, really fun to dance too and play during parties and social gatherings. Love the idea of love being compared to poison because in a way its true LOL
5. I can’t say goodbye- this is really slow but intriguing when you first hear it, she sounds really sad and in pain so that makes you want to listen to hear why, definitely it’s because she has to say goodbye but its very different, I loved the vocals they were really sad. When she sings la la la it’s really cool, I don’t know if many would like this but I did it was really cool.
6. Do what you like- really great follow up to a slow song, this definitely makes you get up again and want to dance, my favorite part is towards the end when she begins to scat, that really surprised me because I seriously was not expecting it, it was weird but now many artist do it. The beat is pretty repetitive but in a good way.
7. These boots are made for walking- great cover to this song, the beat was okay, not my favorite song but okay.
8. If you give me credit- these song is really good I like the lyrics, it has more of a pop sound and it had good vocals and lyrics.
9. Je ne sais pas pourquoi- definitely slower but it has a very cool feel to it, definitely my favorite, I love the French lyrics, they are very good in this song, the beat is very 70’s disco.
10. Take my love mon amour- she talks too much, not a fan of this, it sounds like an introduction, I definitely never listen to this, I can’t relate to this at all. She has good vocals when she does sing but I’m just not a fan of this track.
11. My heart goes boom (K’s house rmx) – its not a good mix it took the essence of the song which is the beat and turned it into an eternal almost never ending mix that does nothing special but emphasize the original lyrics and stretching the French parts, the extended mix of this track is way better.
12. Do what you like ( I like house rmx) – this mix is a little better because it didn’t strip the beat completely and it left a few of the beats from the previous version, the voice is also emphasized and the beat is lost in the background, I think house music is good when they create something new but when you take euro-dance which is usually really upbeat and mellow it down its not fun.
I give this album a 9 just because the two tracks at the end were unnecessary, and it has a song I refuse to listen too, but all in all pretty good, her concept of desire is clear with every song and her voice is great I love hi-pitched voices but I also find deep voices in women who sing to be really sensual and sexual, which is the concept of this artist, sexual magnetism.
