Review:
For fans of 90's eurodance and even bubblegum eurodance, "Oscillator X" is one of those amazing groups that is currently taking the musical world by storm. Made up of members Kyle Ward (of In The Groove fame) and John Mendenhall (When Machines Dream), Oscillator X has continued to pump out amazing tunes since 2006, including my personal favourites "Safety Net", "Dynamo", and "Dance All Night", as well as the more recent tracks "Just Don't Stop" and "Together With You". This is a review of their debut album, "Techno Techyes", released in 2008.
The quirky titled album "Techno Techyes" is an outstanding collection of dance tracks that is rippling with thunder-bolt energy. The album bursts into action with the catchy "Party People (All Night Long)", a grunting dance anthem and a perfect introduction to Oscillator X's ultimate "party album". The songs "Dynamo" and "Style On My Speed Dial" are sure to please those bubblegum dance enthusiasts (e.g. Aqua, Ni-Ni) with their traditional production and catchy melodies. Oscillator X is extra cheesy with the awesome "Dance All Night" - a fun dance song inspired by traditional bubblegum dance of the 90s.
Track 5, "You Bring The Rain", is a break from the pumping happy dance/pop and is a truely amazing and dramatic "trance-inspired" song. Expert production and close attention to detail, as well as the introduction of a female vocalist (Olohana), makes this one of the best songs on the album. Also included on Techno Techyes is my personal favourite "Safety Net", which features some awesome vocal production and lyrics, and a techno/dance cover of the popular rhyme "London Bridge".
After the release of Techno Techyes, Oscillator X has continued to release some amazing singles in preparation for their new album that will be released in 2010. Included on this new album will be the outstanding single "Just Don't Stop", an amazing bubblegum inspired dance song with thumping beats and synth solos, as well as a high-energy chorus. Oscillator X has also released "Never Been In Love" - a song rippling with electricity and energy - and "Together With You" - a tongue in cheek look at love, with traditional bubblegum dance production in the style of Ni-Ni, and a break down to die for. Fans keep your eyes glued to oscillatorx.com, the follow-up album to Techno Techyes is sure to be fantastic!
Oscillator X has a defined style that is unique to anything I have heard. They have created an album that is diverse in sound and style, yet that follows the same formula perfectly. Their sound can be compared to that of Eiffel 65, with heavy vocoders swimming in an array of synthesisers and electric beats. I highly recommend Oscillator X's music to everyone after refreshing, feel good dance music. The 90's were the best for dance music, and Oscillator X knows it. This IS 90's dance, but with a 21st century twist! TechNO? Hardly, this is TechYES.
Buy this album, you won't regret it.
