Who can forget the monster Aqua hits; ”Barbie girl”, ”My oh my” and many more?
There has been a long silence since the last note was played by this globally loved act, There has also been a great deal of speculation, in an age of group reunions, as to whether we will see Lene, Rene. Søren and Claus re-form to re-kindle the AQUA phenomenon.
While the world is hungry for more a new Danish act YOI (pronounced Joi, Japanese for ready), has prised open the Aqua box just a little. YOI has been given the exclusive world rights to use some of the original Aqua repertoire including the hits; My oh My, Lollipop and Barbie Girl to bring it to a new generation in an unique and exciting way.
YOI said recently; “AQUA is very special and one of a kind and one could never make a new AQUA, and we are certainly not trying to do that. YOI have chosen our own way of approaching the challenge, and then added at touch of AQUA’s magic. We have decided to make a whole album with our own pop-tracks, without any connection to AQUA. But then we have recorded up-tempo versions of our tracks for the club scene and here we have woven AQUA’s riffs into each remix.”
The final result will be a double album including 11 pop tracks and 11 remixes featuring a dusting of recognisable Aqua riffs.
YOI are scheduled to take two tours; the ”POP-TOUR” initially, where they will be performing both versions of the songs on the album and then later the ”POP4CLUB-TOUR” for which they will uniquely perform only the mix versions on the songs. This way YOI will reach a broader audience in an exciting and revolutionary way.
YOI has a great amount of respect for AQUA and their music, and they do not wish to make music that AQUA’s audience do not approve of. Therefore all music will be approved by the former executives behind AQUA, and will not be release without their acceptance. The former AQUA band members are 100% behind this project
The first taste of the fantastic music from YOI is the track “Discover – YOI radio edit” and the mix “Discover my lollipop – YOI vs AQUA”. This single has already been released in Denmark, and can be bought on Danish music download sites.
The full album is planned for release in early 2008.
