Here's some info on K3, one of my favourite bubblegum artists of all time. I got plenty of info from Dutch-language websites and I translated it for you guys so you can understand it too. ;D
Also, I don't understand why they haven't got their own page in the Encyclopedia yet! They're active for over 10 years already and are so big in Belgium and the Netherlands, without their popularity decreasing! Why, tell me!! =O
Current members:
Karen Damen (born 28 October in Wilrijk, Belgium) - The "redhead" of the group. Member from the beginning.
Kristel Verbeke (born 10 December in Hamme, Belgium) - The group's "brunette". Member from the beginning.
Josje Huisman (born 16 February in Heusden, the Netherlands) - The group's "blonde". New member since 2009, as the winner of talent show "K2 zoekt K3" (K2 in search for K3), to replace Kathleen Aerts who left to pursue a solo carreer. She is also the first Dutch member of the group.
Former members:
Kathleen Aerts (born 18 June in Geel, Belgium) - The original blonde from the group. Left the group in 2009 to pursue a solo carreer.
More info:
The project was started in 1998 as some kind of "Belgian Spice Girls". Because all of the original members's group names started with a K, they called themselves K3.
Their first single "Wat Ik Wil" (What I Want) was released in 1998, but didn't become a hit. They participated on 1999's Eurovision Song Contest with their follow-up single "Heyah Mama", which did become a hit. From this moment on, they became more and more succesful, with one hit after another.
The group is owned by Belgian production company Studio 100, which produces music artists, TV series, movies and musicals primarily marketed towards children (even though they're also loved by older audiences (yes, this is true!).
Trivia:
- There's also a "German version" of the group, called Wir 3 (Us 3). They sing K3's songs in German. Also, a "South-African version" of the group existed, called X4, who had four members instead of 3. They sung K3's songs in both Afrikaans and English. This project, however, was ended when their producer Niels William, who also produces K3's song, moved back to Belgium.
- Even though K3's music is primarily marketed towards children nowadays, the project was originally ment to be all-age (hence the fact that the group still has a lot of teen/adult fans). The reason why they decided to market it towards children is probably because it's their largest and most devoted audience, as with most bubblegum acts.
So, hope this info is enough for you guys. I'll post more whenever I think it is needed. ;D
