I'm putting this in "discuss" because I don't actually have it to share.
Anyway, I found this while watching anime music videos, and... it's weird!
thirdimpact.bandcamp.com/
The date on it is 2011, but it takes some very direct influences from early 2000's bubblegum - it even has a "bubblegum dance" tag. Musically, it's very traditional.
Lyrically, on the other hand... it's definitely going for a "happy music with messed up lyrics" vibe, which I can normally appreciate. It's a lovely little bubblegum tune about a squid girl who wants to take over the world. But isn't she just too cute?
...but god I don't like the singer's voice much at all! That kills it! You'd think the violent lyrics would be what would kill it for me - wow this does not suit the genre - but hey, I have a dark sense of humor. I can appreciate that. I've heard far worse than this, so this doesn't even faze me. I just can't appreciate the singing at all. It reminds me more of a toy commercial singer than an actual trained vocalist. It's an amateur production, to be sure.
I can't find anything about this band. It's tagged "United States", but that's all I have. Apparently there's an American metal band called Third Impact, but I'm assuming they're a different band entirely. Unless they recorded this as a joke, but since this is the only song on that Bandcamp account, I doubt it.
But whether it's them or not, I'm certain this was written as a joke. I know a lot of people in the DDR community can have dark senses of humor - they did when I was active there, anyway, and I can't see that it would change much - so until I find more information, my theory is that a bunch of friends got together, made the most ridiculously unsuitable DDR song they could imagine for the sake of a laugh, and then never did anything again. It's a one-off joke. That's my guess, unless someone Googles better than I can.
EDIT: A bit more Googling reveals that the song's lyrics are the plot to the anime "Squid Girl". I'd heard of the anime, but didn't know if they were related, but after reading the summary, the similarities are more than incidental. That lends credence to the "DDR fans being ridiculous" theory, at any rate.
So. There's that.
Just a weird little thing I found in a dark corner of the Internet!
