Howdy! Now that everyone on here has had the chance to listen to (and hopefully buy) SMiLE.dk's new single "Our Little Corner", what do you think? It goes without saying that just about anything an old BGD artist puts out is a welcome addition to my iTunes library, but I think it's also fun to have a lively discussion and really analyze media of interest. I'll kick it off, here is my brief review of the track:
SMiLE.dk // Our Little Corner - Single
After my first listen of the song, I had a big SMiLE on my face and hit repeat to pump it through my headhpones again. The vocals are great, Veronica's voice sounds beautiful - she's definitely projecting her passion for the project through her voice and it shows. The lyrics are adorable, and while there's a line or two I think could use revision - I really think that a majority of the song is very cute and sweet - definitely makes me feel warm and fuzzy thinking about my boyfriend. "Checking in on my mom, making sure that she's okay" not only brings to mind the depressing thought of an aging mother unable to take care of herself, but the lyrics imply that it's just another day-to-day chore rather than sincere worry - but that's just me being WAY too analytical. The production is pleasant, even if the opening synth does sound a little dated. It's certainly not a disappointing comeback single like I thought it might be. And while people compare the shift to Dolly Style's "Upsy Daisy", I disagree - this is much dancier and upbeat. Lastly I must address the album art: I love the photo, not only does Veronica look great, but the white prism in the corner of the room with hints of rainbow elsewhere is really effective. The only thing that ruins it is the TERRIBLE font that "Our Little Corner" is written in! Why oh why would someone ruin such a great single cover with text that looks like a Windows '95 Word document? Especially since the logo looks so cute, you figured whoever did that could have handled the song title too. Oh well, it's a minor complaint - but if anyone here can shop up a better version, I'd definitely use it in my iTunes. ;D Well those are my thoughts, what do you all think?! I'm excited for the new album, especially since this song proves that it will definitely be full of some fun new Europop to jam out to.
