Twas listening to Savage Garden's "Affirmation" and I had to make a statement about it. Everytime I listen to it I get goosebumps. It's such a powerful song with such a powerful message. I love Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones! <3 Some of the best wordsmiths out there.

I always saw it as "don't live in a daydream, for once you wake up it's gonna be a nasty shock", but they're both pretty close. As a sidenote, when I was like 10 I actually attempted a songfic for this. XD Something about a girl always dreaming about being in Pokemon... and references to Mew because I remember she has something to do with bubbles, but I can't for my life imagine what... so I shall remember it fondly. Even if that story was shorter than the lyrics thrown in it and it was teh suck.

^Yeah, thats how i figured most likely that the song is talking about the excesses of the late 90s in relation to the massive amount of wealth wrought by the dot com boom...It relates the bubble of the stock market and growing wealth to being insulated from reality, like what alan greenspan said about "irrational exuberrance" when he was talking about the dot com bubble.

I saw bubble as relating to the whole daydream thing, and the end was what led me to that- here's someone going on about his dream of being a big star, he's rich, he's everywhere, everyone loves him, he has every material possession he ever wanted... but he shouldn't dwell on this little wish, because the longer he does, the more it's going to hurt once he leaves the bubble and realizes that a snowball has as much chance in hell as he does in getting all this.

As for Brightly Shines, it hit me in the head immediately after the first time I heard it- it's about someone who's so painfully shy she withdraws from everyone and everything, she feels she's not exactly good enough to "bother" people... but it's not true. She has good qualities. And everyone will see them once she does.

Maybe each song has a "WTF?" line or two or ten, but I get the basic gist.

Here is another one, "History Repeating" by the Propellerheads, i love it because the way its produced, the lyrics, and the sound of it all come together to really create a unified message about how humanity never really has something entirely new, no matter how much we claim to be different from a previous era.

Just thought of another one, which basically put 16 years of my "why's being slim important?" into the insane rantings of Manda Rin. Bis's Monstarr. The previous year I got an identical project (only I could use anything- descriptions of commercials, print ads, descriptions of movie scenes, whatever) and I picked E-type's "When Religion Comes To Town". It seems to be about how people abuse religion for their own purposes- something created for good is used for the sake of prejudice, discrimination, and outright nastiness, and in my head the title translates as "when religion comes into the picture". I think part of my inspiration was that the teacher was rambling about how all non-Christians are unAmerican sods and I was wondering if I could knock sense into her. I don't think it clicked.

I ask myself, "What is this?" I feel so low
Could it be that the whole wide world is mad? I'm worried

I think a lot of Eiffel 65 songs are like that...they seem like they try too hard to be poetic but more often than not, it kinda comes out messy, lol ;D
