Hi everyone,
Below is the interview with SMiLE.dk's Veronica. Veronica apologised for taking so song to reply, she said her schedule has been extremely busy as of late (and now we know why lol ).
1. Firstly, what is your favorite song(s) by Smile.dk?
– Oh! That’s hard, so many great songs to choose from…Butterfly will always be a favourite just because that song started the whole Smile.dk story…but I also love “First time lovers” and “ Kissy Kissy”. But one absolute favourite that I don’t think many would think of is “Petit Love”. This crazy happy song will keep me going always, makes me sooooo happy!!!!
2. I notice a lot of your songs have a Japanese theme, is that part of Smile.dk's image?
– Well, in the beginning it wasn’t…the first album we did had tracks with themes from all over the world: Butterfly from Japan, Coconut from Caribbean, Sweet Senorita from Spain, Come Si come Ca from France and so on… But Japan picked up Butterfly and it became a huge hit in the whole Asian market. So after that we realised that we had found our “Smile-sound”, and the rest is history.
3. Everyone at the Forum is anxious to know, is there going to be any new album releases by Smile.dk in the future?
– We’ve just started working on a new album that will come out this year, 2008!!!
4. Are there any plans for a Greatest Hits album release?
– Instead of a greatest hits album we will combine the best of worlds…a new album with totally new songs and some of the old hits remade for 2008 style!!
5. Will there be any international releases?
– Of course!!! This time we release world wide!! USA, Europe, Asia…
6. Are you friends with any other Euro-bubblegum dance artists?
– Well, I’ve met Aqua and Me and My but that was long ago, and Dr Bombay is a good friend, and Alcazar…they did our choreography…
7. I love the music you have produced with Robert Uhlmann. Do you plan to work with him again in the future?
– Maybe, he’s very talented and did most of our hits, a real hit maker! …so hopefully!!!
8. Your songs have appeared in many music videogames. Have you had the chance to play them? Which game is your favourite?
– Oh…yes, I’ve played the first one with Butterfly, and the second with Boys…but mostly we were judges in dance competitions all over Asia…that was really funny, and the boys and girls who participated were soooo talented!!
9. How do you feel about your music being on Dance Dance Revolution? Did you think DDR would help you in promoting your first album release?
– I love Dance Dance Revolution! I love games that gets your body moving and with great music at the same time!!! But no…who would have thought that a game could give you so much good promotion!! A BIG, positive surprise!!!
10. You mentioned something about a DVD release of your videos in an interview, will that ever happen?
– Hm.. Maybe…nothing’s decided yet! Does anyone really wanna see our old videos??
11. What are some of your current hobbies and interests?
– What else then singing, writing and being together with other great musicians and create music!! But also of course spending as much time with my son and family as I possibly can!!!
12. The majority of bubblegum dance styled music comes from Scandinavian countries. Do you know why it has/had such a huge focus in this area, and why is it mostly popular in Japan?
– No I actually don’t know why…but I know that they loooove singing karaoke in all the Asian countries, and the Scandinavian pop music have a lot of beautiful melodies that are easy to remember and to sing to…
12. Smile.DK's last release was in 2001. Considering how long it's been, what was your reaction to being emailed by a fan willing to conduct a fan interview?
– Oh! 2002 was our last release with the album ”Golden Sky” and the single ”Domo Domo Domo”…and yes that’s a long time ago, so of course I was very surprised when you contacted me! But oh so flattered! Thank you so much for your great website…wish you all the luck and keep smiling!
Thanks so much to Veronica for supplying us with such a great interview!! ;D
