Muscular Dystrophy campaign and Tuborg proudly present Aqua as the first name in their lineup for 2008.
Not only will Grøn Koncert present Aqua's first ever concert since announcing their reformation, it will be the first place they can be experienced live next summer. In 2008 it will also be 10 years since they played for the first time at Grøn Koncert.
Between the 17th and 27 July Aqua and Grøn Koncert will again be going on a tour of the country, this time visiting 8 different towns in Denmark. The tour hits its' first tones in Esbjerg, and follows on in Herning, Århus, Aalborg, Kolding, Odense, Næstved, and concluding with the grand finale in Valby (Copenhagen).
In the 1990s Aqua filled the radio waves and TV-channels with a flood of hits like Barbie Girl, Roses are Red and Doctor Jones. When the members of Auqua decided to go their separate ways in 2002, they had sold 18 million albums and 10 million single. In other words, they were not just a part of the most phenomenal musical fairytale in Denmark's history- they wrote the book. Aqua became the country's biggest economic export in the 1990's, and experienced in a short time the kind of success, that most bands can only dream of but never experience.
Irresistable pop songs, spectacular live shows, and clothes that could have been worn by aliens from distant galaxies, became the trademarks of Søren og Lene Nystrøm Rasted, Claus Norreen and René Dif when they formed the band in 1995. The four members created a universe where music, lyrics, style and impression reached a higher unity, and set the standard for the many pop bands that have followed in the wake of their success.
The reformed popband are headlining the music festival-tour next summer.
When the traditional Grøn Koncert begins its' tour on the 17. juli 2008 in Esbjerg, it will feature the newly reformed Aqua as the headlining act. This news was made public by comperes Jacob Haugaard and Simon Juul at a ceremony in the Federate Brewery Community centre in Copenhagen today.
The announcement was marked by a hockey match in electric wheelchairs, between Dreamteam, who are the national champions in this sport, and Aqua, who were somewhat unused to manovering round in the electical chairs.
At the press conference that followed, GAFFA asked a sandwich-munching Rene Dif a couple of questions on Aqua's comeback:
Why have you chosen to reform Aqua?
– In short: the desire has come back. We are unbelievably keen to play together again. We want to get out there and give it our all.
What are your ambitions?
– We want to tour more than the last time, we were together. We want to travel the whole of Europe.
What kind of Aqua are the public going to see this time?
- We want to kick ass. We want to give maximum potential on the stage. We're pulling out all the stops. We are going to play both the good old numbers, and we've also made some new tracks. There will be more people on stage. It's going to be big. We just want to kick ass.
There is maybe also a new album on the way?
– No, not for the time being anyway.
For the sports fans, it's only fair to let you know the score, that Dreamteam won the electric wheelchair hockey match in convincing style, with a whole 7 goals to 0. Aqua were bottom of the league thanks to their female goalkeeper, Nystrøm Rasted, who scored the first goal, which can only be characterised as an own-goal.
The rest of the lineup for Grøn Koncert 2008 will be announced to the public over the coming months. The tickets are on sale from today.
