Carlito - Fiesta (2006)
Fiesta is the debut album of "Carlito", Jonny Jakobsen's third pseudonym, which satirizes the Mexican people and their culture. Unlike the other two projects, this album focuses mainly on instruments such as violins, banjos and others that can be seen as typical of Mexican culture. In addition, Fiesta tracks focus more on a 'pop beat' (as we can see on some tracks), however, it still maintains its traditional Eurodance beat, as usual. A curious fact about this album is that the female vocal is used a lot, since in Jonny Jakobsen's two previous projects, this was not common.
1. "Carlito (Who's That Boy?)" - In addition to the hits, the 'first track' of an album is the most important of all, as it is her responsibility to make a certain 'summary' about what we can expect from the album. Really, Jonny Jakobsen was right to make a song summarizing his newest project (at that time), because it allowed people to know better about who Carlito is and what he came to do. At the beginning of the song, there is a small dialogue between Carlito for his 'Carlita' girlfriend, which will extend throughout the song. When the first chorus starts, you will immediately conclude that the best is yet to come, and you are right. It really is a very incredible song that even has a sound based on Salsa, which makes this release more incredible and memorable. It is a very melodic and addictive song, but the level changes when 2 notes are changed in the final chorus, which made the song much more exciting. The vocals on this track are impeccable, in addition to an excellent musical arrangement. Carlito (Who's That Boy?) Is undoubtedly a very well produced song, in addition to being the hit of this album, and also the most contagious and dancing.
2. "Taco Boy" - As mentioned earlier, some Fiesta tracks have more of a pop beat (perhaps due to the fact that Jonny opts for a more modern and popular sound), but still retaining his bubblegum dance style; In turn, "Taco Boy" is not out. It really is a very good song, there is even a moderate guitar solo in the post-chorus in some parts of the song. I also loved the lyrics of the chorus accompanied by an impeccable voice from the female vocalist, as this makes the song very memorable and contagious. Definitely a song for my ears.
3. "Poco Loco" - In fact, it's Fiesta's cutest and most hilarious song, because its lyrics and its meaningless sound provided that. Overall, it is a very melodic song, with a very incredible musical arrangement, in addition to synthesizers driven by joy. The pre-chorus and chorus of this song, is really very contagious! My favorite track!
4. "Casa De Carlito" - This track is great and ok, however, it doesn't have a very catchy hook, besides not being very memorable, except for the pre-chorus, which is very pleasant. In addition, Casa De Carlito is an intelligent music that makes good use of different instruments and sounds.
5. "El Camino" - At only 3:51, "El Camino" is the longest song on the album. This track definitely doesn't have a very impressive melody, although it's not too bad. At the beginning of the song, there is a telephone conversation between Carlito and his girlfriend, and that already creates a certain expectation about the song. However, this expectation is immediately lost when the song starts, as there is a 'mess' in the musical arrangement of this song, which makes it quite unpleasant. However, the song stands out more in the pre-chorus. I would like them to redo the song for the second album and the errors corrected.
6. "Adios Amigo (My Endless Love)" - Taking a break from his fast-paced repertoire, we are released for the beautiful ballad "Adios Amigo". It really is Fiesta's most relaxing and captivating song. This track is probably one of the best 'bubblegum ballads' I've ever heard (alongside Crispy) and is a definitive highlight of the album. The female vocals in this song are beautiful, and there is only the 'sad vocal' on the part of Jonny.
7. "¡Alarma Caramba! (Somebody Stole My Señorita)" - Without a doubt, this song is the second best track on this album (behind "Carlito (Who's That Boy?)"), Because it has a very catchy hook, besides being very melodic, managing to 'hook' your listener until the end of the song. It is a very well produced song, and the vocals are surprisingly impeccable, with an excellent musical arrangement, not to mention the addictive guitar. Definitely a highlight that must be appreciated.
8. "I Like It" - Although it is not the best song on the album, this is all good except a 'fill', and for sure you will have it stuck in your mind for several days. I believe that this song was inspired by Lou Bega's song "Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of...)", because Carlito speaks the names of several girls he likes in the chorus, in addition to presenting why; thus making a certain reference.
9. "Vacaciones" - it is a very pleasant, relaxing and very melodic song. However, I think they should have added a few more lyrics to the chorus, it would be great! This song already makes a good impression at the beginning, but when it evolves, you will soon see that it is a good choice. Following the same formula as some Fiesta tracks, two notes are changed at the end of the song, making it even more exciting.
10. "My Salsa" - As your album is influenced by salsa music, a track that best represents it would be no exception. The music seems exciting at first, when the sound of salsa music is added together with Jonny's funny vocals, however, when the first verse starts, the song is sickening; but it regains strength in the pre-chorus and the chorus. This track should never be skipped.
11. "Mañana" - Unlike the other tracks, this one focuses more on the tropical sound and that, even, is an extraordinary 'bubblegum reggae'. I loved the vocalists' vocals (which are extremely excellent), in addition to the sound effects that were really accurate, as it really sounds like they are on a Caribbean beach. A 1000 note track.
12. "Fiesta Night" - To conclude the album with great style, we are released for the beautiful and dancing song 'Fiesta Night', which is a very energetic track in the sense of everything (synthesizer, hook, vocal etc.). I loved the hook of the chorus, because it is very exciting and probably if you listen to this track, you will not get it out of your mind, it is so contagious. A really good way to finish the album!
Overall, I would summarize Fiesta as a 'bold bet that worked really well', and it really worked. In fact, the album was very well produced, in addition to really capturing the essence of Mexican culture. I would highly recommend this album to people who love bubblegum dance with a 'Latin flavor'. I definitely didn't see many errors on this album, so my grade is "10/10".
